Avoriaz Snowboarding – Resort Overview

Developers built Avoriaz resort on a shelf above a cliff just a few km from lower-altitude Morzine. They chose a site where the resort area is sunny but the slopes are in the shade. Avoriaz is part of the larger Portes Du Soleil ski area. You can get to Avoriaz easily from nearby Geneva, with its international airport. Once there, you can reach Chamonix,  Flaine, Les Cluzas, Samoens and Morillion in under two hours.

Avoriaz resort itself is car-free with underground parking for people who arrive by automobile. Many of the lodging options allow you to ski in and ski out. One thing to be aware of: your bus stop or car park might be far from your bus. It’s hard to drag your stuff 800 meters in snow. Be prepared to wait for a sleigh – demand can be heavy.

Snowboarding has always been welcomed at this resort. Avoriaz was one of the first to have a designated snowboard only park with a pipe and dedicated lifts. Many regard it as the snowboarding capital of Europe. They even offer a special snowboarders passport.

The resort itself has a little of everything – accommodations from budget to luxury, nightlife, activities and plenty of pistes, off piste free riding, and parks. You’ll see spectacular panoramic views of the Dent Blanches and Dents du Midi from the slopes. Avoriaz offers a wide variety of terrian from broad open valley pistes to big cliff drops to challenging powder-laden glades of trees. Because it is at high altitude,  you are guaranteed to find snow cover from December to April. Average snowfall in Avoriaz is eight meters! Whoo!

Avoriaz Snowboarding Trip Budget
