Here we are with the winner of the Internet Rehab Sri Lanka Surf Trip Giveaway. We wanted to find out a little more about her so we did a little interview. It turns out she is big on surfing and these won’t be the first waves she’s caught. Check out her story below to find out a little more about our winner, Rebecca Maria!

So tell us a little about yourself. Are you a surfer already?

My name is Rebecca Maria. I grew up in a small village in the South of Germany. I am 27 years old, living on the beautiful island of Fuerteventura. Based in the north of the island, I cannot really complain about anything, it is simply amazing to be surrounded by nature and waves!  Surfing is my greatest passion, not only for a sport but meditation, action, balance, love. A lifestyle – once tasted always wanted.

How did a feel when you found out you won the Sri Lanka Good Story giveaway?

First of all, I want to say a huge THANK YOU to RideWithLocal for this incredible win! I am absolutely stoked and cannot wait to explore Sri Lanka for the first time!

How did you find out about RideWithLocal and the giveaway?

Luckily I had discovered the RideWithLocal Facebook Page around 2 months ago and really liked the concept: To connect Surfers/Boarders with Locals to share local knowledge about the best spots and the place itself and therefore to experience unique and authentic holiday adventures. I saw the post about the Internet Rehab Giveaway and thought it was a really cool idea to remind people that there is still a beautiful real world out there away from the social media world. So I participated and fulfilled the requirement not to post anything to Facebook for 1 week. I feel super lucky to be the one name randomly picked from more than 16000 participants.

When did you start surfing and where have been to?

Back in 2009, I got bitten by the surf bug in Byron Bay Australia, discovering the challenges of surfing. Whilst studying international business in Germany, I took every opportunity to go traveling, ending up in the Carribean, South East Asia, Costa Rica and Indonesia. For my practical semester abroad I worked with a local sailing company in Panama City, got to know the Central American culture and learned Spanish.

Are you excited about going to Sri Lanka? Who are you going to take with you?

With this epic win, I will finally get to see and surf Sri Lanka, thanks to RideWithLocal! My travel partner will probably be Larissa, one of my real good friends from Canada, who is planning to be in Europe by October.
